saint paul, minn. - the golden bears (1-0) season got off to a great start with an early season in region win against regis (0-1) 72-45 on friday night. Sophomore
carissa wolyniec (minneapolis, minn.) had a team high 17 points, two shy of her career high. She was 7-10 from the field and 3-6 from behind the arc.
jodi batzel (rochester, minn.) had 12 points, the only other cu player in double figures.

concordia's defense held regis to 22.6% shooting on the night and just 14.3% in the second half. Cu's perimeter defense was outstanding holding the rangers to 1-22 shooting from the behind the arc. The golden bears also had balance scoring as four other players had 5+ points. Anne skriba (la crosse, wis.) had eight points to lead all bench scorers on 3-3 shooting from the floor.
in the first half concordia got scoring from wolyniec, as she had 12 in the opening half. With the score tied at 12 in the first half cu went on a 16-2 run to take a commanding 28-14 lead. Erica gress had five of her seven points in the run. At the end of the first half cu held a 25 point lead thanks to a wolyniec buzzer beater to give cu the 45-20 lead.
the golden bears kept rolling in the second half extending the lead to as much as 30 at 56-26 with 12:42 left in the game. Regis was unable to get anything on offense in the second half being out shot 45.5 - 14.3 in the half. Batzel had eight of her points in 11 second half minutes.
