Murtha's career high leads CU

aberdeen, s. D. - the golden bears (27-2, 17-2 nsic) swept through northern state (12-14, 7-12 nsic) on friday night with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-18). Freshman ashley murtha (apple valley, minn.) had a career high 15 kills to lead all scorers on the evening, she also added 11 digs for a double-double. megan carlson (andover, minn.) had a double-double as well with 14 kills and 14 digs. amanda konetchy (victoria, minn.) also picked up a double-double with as well with 47 assists and 12 digs. box score | watch live | live stats

with the win coach brady starkey is now just one win shy of 300 in his career, he will have a chance to reach that mark tomorrow afternoon against u-mary. The cu defense had 62 digs on the night, their second most in a sweep this season. taylor fieldsted (lakeville, minn.) had 13 digs and kayla koenecke (delano, minn.) had 11 digs in the win.

in the first set concordia fell behind 9-2 before the team caught fire. The golden bears scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a 13-12 lead. Cu kept rolling and had a lead as large as 20-14 in the match before taking the set 25-17.

the golden bears came out better in the second set taking a 10-4 lead and forcing the wolves to call a timeout. Nsu could not keep up and cu forced another northern timeout leading 17-10 late in the set. Concordia took set two by a score of 25-15 as they rolled offensively.

northern state kept the third set close as the wolves were just down one at 11-10. From there however it was all cu as they opened up a 17-12 lead and led by as much as 23-14 late in the set as they rolled to a 25-18 win.
