kayla koenecke (delano, minn.) had 12 kills to lead the offense. katie habeck (farmington, minn.) had 11 kills and hit .500 on the night. Amanda konetchy (victoria, minn.) had a double-double with 35 assists and ten digs. cassie haag (plymouth, minn.) had four blocks and six digs. Concordia hit .330 on the night, outhitting umd .103.
the golden bears jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set forcing a quick minnesota duluth timeout. Concordia led 15-9 midway through the set and forced umd to use their second timeout. Minnesota duluth could never get closer than five in the set as cu took the set 25-19.
it was all concordia the start of the second set as well as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead. Umd never recovered and fell behind by as much as eight at 20-12. Both the bulldogs and golden bears traded points for the remainder of the set as cu won 25-17.
minnesota duluth put up a fight in the third set, taking a 7-2 lead and forcing a golden bear timeout. The timeout worked as concordia scored six straight after a umd ace to tie the set at eight. Umd did not let cu take the lead and held a 15-12 lead midway through the third set. Five straight points by the golden bears gave them a 17-15 lead and umd could not tie the match up again. The lead was 20-16 when umd called their second timeout of the set. Concordia stayed poised in front of almost 2500 fans and scored five of the last six points to win the set and clinch the match.
concordia is back on the court saturday afternoon as they take on st. Cloud state at 4:00 p.m. In st. Cloud. The ncaa central region rankings will be released tomorrow afternoon.
