Pieper lifts Concordia in season finale

WAYNE, Neb. - The Golden Bears (7-10, 6-7 NSIC) earned a 2-1 overtime victory over Wayne State (5-11-2, 2-10-1 NSIC) to close out their season. The seven wins on the season tie the most since 2006, with seven wins coming in 2009. The six NSIC wins was the most since 2006 when they won six as well. Amanda Olsen (Cottage Grove, Minn.) broke the school record for most points in a season with a goal and assist in the match. Sarah Pieper (New Brighton, Minn.) had the match winner in overtime. In the 15th minute of play Concordia got on the board as Amanda Olsen struck the ball from 15 yards out hitting the crossbar and going in the net. Brittany Kapala picked up her sixth assist on the year which tied her with Arielle Stimson (Lakeville, Minn.) for the team lead. Six assists is tied for the fifth most in school history for a single season. CU went into half with a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats tied the match six minutes in to the second half with a strike from 25 yards out. Wayne State had 13 shots in the second half but four saves by Megan Kurtz (Waunakee, Wis.) kept CU in the match and the match tied at one after regulation time.

In the first overtime Wayne State had three shots but failed to score. Three minutes into the second overtime Olsen found Pieper who beat the keeper from ten yards out giving CU the win. It was Pieper's second goal of her freshman year and her first match winner. Concordia finished ninth in the NSIC just missing out on the NSIC Tournament. With four seniors Kurtz, Savannah Nolen (Oronoco, Minn.), Lauren Hoof (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Chloe Weinberg (St. Paul, Minn.) on the roster CU will look to build on their productive season.

Olsen finished 2011 with 13 goals and four assists, which is good for 30 points on the season most in school history. Olsen averaged 1.76 points per match, most in school history over a career. Kurtz picked up her seventh win of her career on Sunday afternoon.
