saint paul, minn. - in what may be the final game inside the gangelhoff for the #4 golden bears (24-2, 14-2 nsic) this season concordia rebounded with a sweep of augustana (14-11, 8-9 nsic) 25-16, 25-20, 25-12. megan carlson (andover, minn.) had another double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs both team highs on the afternoon. ellie duffy (fridley, minn.) had 10 kills and eight digs. box score
concordia came out on a mission in the first set jumping out to a 12-3 lead forcing a augustana timeout. It was augustana's second timeout in the set as cu had an 8-2 lead at the start. The vikings got as close as six at 18-12 before cu pulled away for good winning the set 25-16. Carlson had five kills and six digs in set. katie habeck (farmington, minn.) had three kills and three blocks.
the second set was a much closer battle early on. Cu led by four at 8-4 but the vikings got back within one at 10-9. Concordia forced at timeout after taking a 15-10 lead. The lead was as big as 16-10 in the set before augie came firing back. Down 18-14 late the vikings got within one at 20-19 forcing a cu timeout. The stop in action helped the golden bears as they scored four straight to take a 24-19 lead before going into intermission with a 25-20 set two win. Carlson had seven kills in the set and taylor fieldsted (lakeville, minn.) had six digs.
the golden bears took a quick lead in set three as well jumping out 7-3 forcing a augustana timeout. With cu holding a 8-4 lead duffy came to the service lined and delivered with four aces in five attempts as cu built up a 13-5 lead. In the middle of the set cu had a 15-5 lead forcing augustana to use a timeout in hopes to get back in the match. The timeout did not work as cu ended up taking the set 25-12 for their 24th win of the season.
in the match concordia hit .320 and held augustana to .147. The golden bears also had ten blocks in the match led by seven from habeck. Fieldsted finished with 12 digs to aid the defense. Concordia is now back in action tuesday with a non-conference match at minnesota duluth.
