Cu picks up big road win

moorhead, minn. - the golden bears (8-8, 7-5 nsic) got their first road win of the season as they brought their season record to .500 for the first time this season with a 76-64 win over msu-moorhead (9-7, 6-6 nsic). Cu won in large part to big efforts from jineen williams, rachel hansen and shandrell duncan. Williams led the way with 21 points, hansen and duncan each had 11 as concordia extended their winning streak to five games. box score

williams missed her second double-double of the season by two rebounds, finishing the game with eight, she added a team high four assists as well. Duncan was perfect from the field on the night hitting all four of her shots on her way to a season-high. Hansen had her 11 points as she made a career-high four free throws.

mandy poke made the most of her first start of the season with seven points and a career-high three steals. anne skriba tied her career-high with six points on the night with 3-4 shooting.

the golden bears took control in the first half jumping out to an early 14-4 lead. zoraa quoie scored all nine of her points during the opening 4:28 as cu took the early ten point lead. The golden bears led 17-7 with 12:55 left in the first half and went on a 11-0 run to take a commanding 28-7 lead with 9:28 left in the half. Cu led by as much as 25 in the first half following a jineen williams three-pointer with 3:12 left in the half.

in the first half cu's bench outscored msu moorhead 14-5 as well as having 12 points off turnovers. Concordia shot 58.1% from the field in the first half including 5-11 from three point range. Williams hit two and quoie, poke and carissa wolyniec each had one. The golden bears held the dragons to just 31.0% shooting in the first half.

concordia maintained at least a 20-point lead or more throughout most of the second half. Msu moorhead held the cu offense in check in the second half but it was not enough for them to comeback from a 23-point first half deficit. With 8:04 left in the game cu held a 21 point lead, over the rest of the half the dragons went on a 17-8 run cutting the lead to just 12 with 1:47 left. Neither team scored the rest of the half thanks in large part to cu holding the ball for 1:27 because of two straight offensive rebounds. Hansen had all of her 11 points in the second half alone as she played 19 of the final 20 minutes.

cu is back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to take on minnesota, crookston at 4 p.m. Umc has won three straight games in nsic play.
