houghton, mich. €" the concordia university’s soccer team was unable to put the ball in the back of the net despite having more shots on goal then the michigan tech huskies. The golden bears fall to 0-1 on the season. It was the first win ever for the huskies, as 2010 marks the first year they have a women’s soccer program. Cu was led offensively by savannah nolen who led the team with three shots on goal. In her first career start as keeper freshman kayla kuczaboski was able to stop three shots. box score
concordia had 12 shots on the night with eight going on goal. arielle stimson, kari janes and brittany kapala all tallied shots in the season opener. It was the first collegiate game for kapala, who tallied four shots and two on goal. Nolen had four total shots to go with her previously mentioned three shots on goal. Senior kari janes had two shots on goal and sophomore arielle stimson was the last of four cu players to register a shot as she has two shots with one being on goal.
freshmen kaylyn rae smith and chloe moore started for the cu which marked the first college start for both. Three other freshman; brittany kapala, christine nalepka and rachel skog got in to the act for the golden bears coming off the bench to mark the first game played for all three in their young college career.
concordia will be back in action saturday when they take on northern michigan at 11:00 a.m.
