marquette, mich. - the concordia university golden bears (0-1-1) got a result on the road saturday as they played northern michigan to 1-1 draw. Sophomore
arielle stimson scored the lone goal for the bears with 16 seconds left in the game. Stimson is now in sixth place all time in points scored with 26 and tied for fifth all time in goals scored with 11. Redshirt junior keeper
megan krutz earned her first result in her concordia while racking up 11 saves on the afternoon, fifth all time in cu history.
the golden bears and wildcats battled through a scoreless first half. Both cu and nm had six shots in the first half. Northern michigan also had three corner kicks to cu's one. Both goal keepers were forced to make four saves in the opening half as well.
the game opened up in the second half and both goals came after the 50 minute mark. Northern michigan opened up the scoring when dana stephens scored in the 52 minute, with an assist from kari buckel. The golden bears kept the wildcats out of the net the rest of the way and stimson did her best landon donovan impression and scored with 16 seconds left in the game.
the goal forced extra time and in that session northern michigan had three shots while cu was not able to get a shot off. Concordia may not have scored but their defense was able to keep the wildcats out of the net and force a draw on the road.
concordia got multiple shots on goal from stimson and
kristi loobeek as well as one each from
heather vander vorste and
savannah nolen. Freshman
christine nalepka got her first start of her cu career.
the golden bears are back in action tuesday when the travel to winona state for a non-conference showdown at 7:30.
