Saint paul, minn. - the home schedule for the concordia soccer team started out on a high note with the golden bears winning 3-1. Concordia (1-2-1) was led by sophomore
arielle stimson who had one goal and two assists, she has now scored in three straight games. Freshmen
brittany kapala and
kaylyn rae smith scored their first goals of their cu careers.
kayla kuczaboski earned her first win of her young career as well.
box score | gallerynorthwestern started the scoring off in the 16th minute when susan scheil fed the ball down the right hand side and kyrie jorgenson finished on the left side of the goal. Concordia struck back in the 32nd minute when a ball was played to stimson just out side the 18 and she found kapala streaking in the box. Kapala buried the ball on left side of the keeper. The teams went in the half tied at 1-1.
concordia wasted no time in the second half scoring in the 48th minute. Freshman kaylyn rae smith was found in the box by stimson and she had no trouble putting the golden bears up 2-1. Both teams went scoreless for awhile but concordia was on the offensive throughout. Cu scored their third goal of the match in the 83 minute. Sophomore
kim sauberlich took a shot that was deflected and landed at the feet of stimson on the right side about ten yards out. Stimson put it past the diving keeper and cu took a 3-1 lead.
the golden bears had 21 shots in the match with ten going on goal.
kari janes came close to scoring when a drive from about 25 yards out hit the crossbar. Stimson led the way with seven shots and janes was second with five.
concordia will be on the road next weekend as they will take on southwest minnesota state on saturday at noon followed by a match sunday against minnesota state at 1 p.m. As they open northern sun play.
