Comeback kids pull out ninth inning win to open spring trip

winter haven, fla. - the golden bears never led until the winning run crossed home plate. Junior blake devries (eden prairie, minn.) drove in the game winner with an rbi fielder's choice grounder as concordia (4-6) defeated west virginia wesleyan 5-4 in another one-run decision. Right handed reliever ryan rodeck (lino lakes, minn.) picked up the win in two innings of relief for starter andy fagely (r-fr., rhp, mahtomedi, minn.) who went seven strong innings. box score

rodeck earns his first win for the golden bears, improving to 1-1. Fagely made his third start and fourth appearance for cu and has now worked 17.0 innings on the young season.

senior brenden furrow (johnston, iowa) homered and had a sacrifice fly. It was furrow's third home run of the season. Sophomore bryan lippincott (des moines, iowa) doubled twice and sophomore troy dubay (urbandale, iowa) had three hits. All three players played their prep careers at johnston high school in the des moines area.

concordia completes their ninth one-run game of the season. All four of their wins have been by one run while five of their six losses are one run defeats. They will look to continue their late inning magic tomorrow morning with a doubleheader against northern sun rival southwest minnesota state at 8:30 a.m. (central time).

the games are non-conference games but are a great opportunity early in the season for concordia to play top competition in the league.
