Golden bears win fourth straight, sweep smsu

auburndale, fla. - strong pitching and fundamental defense have been the cornerstones of success for the minnesota twins over the past decade. Concordia university head coach mark "lunch" mckenzie, with his ties to the organization, has patterned his coaching style after his major league peers. On sunday morning, his young and talented squad executed the game plan to perfection as they swept southwest minnesota state with 5-2 and 5-1 victories behind those fundamentals. game 1 box - game 2 box

the wins give concordia four conseuctive wins and improve their record to 6-6 on the year. Smsu falls to 2-3 after over a month layoff since their three game series to open the season on february 4 at metrodome against minnesota duluth.

sophomore right handed starters ben lemke (rosemount, minn.) and chris peterson (st. Anthony, minn.) both worked five innings for the victories. Lemke improves to 1-2 on the season while peterson is 1-0.

junior right hander nick anderson (plymouth, minn.) pitched the final two innings in both games, striking out the side to work out of a 2nd and 3rd, no outs jam in the sixth when he entered one of the games. He earned one save and pitched four scoreless frames to lower his season era to 2.35 over 23 innings with as many strikeouts.

offensively, more notes and statistics will be available later, however sophomore bryan lippincott (des moines, iowa) did lace a triple in one of the two games.

concordia is now 3-2 in games against central region opposition. They return to action tomorrow for a single nine inning contest at 2:00 p.m. (central) against st. Joseph's (ind.).
