the golden bears had their offensive arsenal fully loaded on friday morning against dowling university. They were dominant in the game and, aside from a big golden lion fifth inning, had the game firmly in their grasp. The 13 runs scored matches a season high for runs this season. The team put up a seven run second inning to take an 8-4 lead in the game, marking six hits in the inning, including a solo home run from sami mattson.

concordia had as large as a 10-5 lead in the game. Dowling took a 12-10 lead following a seven run fifth inning as cu pitchers struggled with control. The inning started with three straight walks and, following a pitching change, dowling got a huge burst of momentum with a grand slam that was followed by a solo homer. anna bjorlin got her team going in the sixth inning, drilling out a triple and coming around to score as dc attempted to throw out a stealing katie anderson. abby brundidge and mollie lenzie each supplied an rbi hit to put concordia up 13-12. The golden bears fended off dowling in the seventh for the win.

bjorlin, brundidge and nikki scherr each tabbed three hits in the game, with brundidge standing out with three rbi. jenn kaminski gained the win with two innings of relief work, while stephanie schmikla put up the save. The golden bears out-hit dc 16-10 and did not commit an error in the game.

the second meeting of the week with saginaw valley saw two first inning runs by svsu before concordia's defense stepped up and kept the cardinals off the board for the remainder of the game. Svsu's first two batters were the only players to cross the plate in the game. After a lead-off walk, the runner advanced to third base with two illegal pitches and then scored from a bunt single from beaubien. Beaubien then advanced on a groundout and scored on a single to left center field.

the golden bear defense allowed no other runs to score despite plenty of scoring chances by saginaw valley. Two runners were caught stealing and concordia executed every fielding play without an error.

the cu offense was not as successful, however. The team went through six straight innings with batters retired in order. Entering the seventh and final frame, freshman katie anderson laid down a bunt single to fend off the svsu no-hitter by pitcher fulton.
