Lindboe guides softball team to 1-1 finish

colorado springs, colo. - a three-run homerun from freshman jamie lindboe picked up a slow concordia offense on saturday afternoon, but was not enough to match the sluggers of metro state college (5-2). The golden bears fell 12-4 to the roadrunners, but rebounded with a solid 9-1 win over chadron state later in the day. Lindboe marked a first inning, 2-rbi triple to start the golden bears (6-2) on the right track. They continue play tomorrow at the rmac/nsic crossover. msc box score - csc box score

the roadrunners came prepared to hit the ball against concordia. They totaled 15 hits in the game, touching cu pitchers for six long balls. The first homer of the meeting came from the second batter and put metro state up 2-0. Back-to-back home runs were knocked out in the second inning and two more came in the sixth and final inning. It was a knock over the left center fence that ended the game 12-4.

concordia put runners on base in all but one inning of the afternoon, but didn't get anyone in scoring position until the fourth frame. anna bjorlin drove in the first run with a double that scored calli brennan in the fifth, setting the score at 8-1. jamie lindboe caught the home run fever in the sixth inning, driving one over the fence to score three runs for the golden bears. Unfortunately for cu, the scoring came too little and too late, as metro ended the game early in the bottom of the sixth.

concordia's six hits came from six different players, with the rbi going to bjorlin and lindboe. After struggling in the field yesterday evening, the golden bears fielded a clean game with no mistakes. Sophomore thrower steph schmikla (3-2) last 1.1 innings, giving up six hits and five earned runs before jenn kaminski entered in relief. Kaminski fared no better against the metro hitters, giving up nine hits and seven earned runs. The duo combined for four strikeouts.

metro state's mickelson and nishikida had tremendous games, with mickelson batting 4-for-4 with three singles and a homer and nishikida going 3-for-4 with three long bombs.

jamie lindboe struck in the first inning of the second meeting of the weekend against chadron state. With two runners on base, lindboe belted a triple to score two runs. The three-bag shot, the game's normally elusive feat, has come often for the concordia freshman, who has marked three triples this weekend alone.

concordia's lead extended in the second inning as three hits and a walk resulted in three additional runs scored. Senior natalie mast hit a double that drove in a set of the runs. cassye mcmahon (3-0) had a great performance from the circle, finishing the game in five innings with three hits and one run allowed. The only damage done by chadron came in the form of a lead-off solo shot in the second inning. Mcmahon faced only four batters in four of the five innings and had three strikeouts.

also performing well at the plate in the win was anna bjorlin, who had two singles that each resulted in an rbi. Mast finished the game with a team high three rbi, vollowed by lindboe's two. nikki scherr led her team with two runs scored, while seven other players tabbed one run each.
