Golden bears score season high 13 runs, finish 3-3 in colorado

colorado springs, colo. - concordia's softball team (7-3) took a commanding 13-4 win over nebraska-kearney (3-3) on sunday before wrapping up their trip with a disappointing 5-10 loss to csu-pueblo (6-4) later in the day. The golden bears are 7-3 on the season after going 3-3 at the rmac/nsic crossover this weekend. with a season high 13 runs scored against the lopers of nebraska-kearney, it comes as no surprise that the golden bears had plenty of offensive success. The game started out with a four-run first inning as jamie lindboe collected two rbi with a single and calli brennan drove out her first collegiate homerun, a two-run dinger that scored lindboe. The team's third inning saw 12 batters step up to the plate as six additional runs were scored. anna bjorlin and tiff rodd each had two-run singles and the golden bears put up five hits in the inning.

cassye mcmahon pitched the four-hit win, striking out four batters as she improved to 4-0 on the season. She only gave up one earned run and completed the game in just five innings of work, seeing four batters in three of these innings.

lindboe was 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk, collecting her two rbi and three runs scored. natalie mast was also perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a set of walks and stealing a base. Brennan led all players with three rbi. Lindboe's performance continues a 7-game hit streak, while bjorlin has marked rbi in six consecutive games.

the golden bears walked away from colorado springs with a chip on their shoulder after giving up a 10-5 decision to csu-pueblo. After trailing 1-4 early on, concordia took the momentum of the game as they retrieved a 5-4 lead. riff rodd had a lead-off home run, her first of the year, to kick off the fifth inning. Five of the next six cu batters reached on either hits or csup errors, with abby brundidge delivering a 2-run go-ahead single.

the team then suffered a huge blow in the sixth inning when csu-pueblo put up a six spot to double up cu with a 10-5 lead. The inning started with four straight hits and continue until six runs had crossed. Csup totaled eight hits in the inning.

rodd's home run was not the only concordia long shot of the game. sami mattson also launched one over the fence to score the team's first run of the day. These were the first home runs by returning golden bears this season. Mattson was 2-for-3 in the game with two runs scored. The golden bears had seven hits in the game.

stephanie schmikla (3-3) took the loss for the golden bears. She threw the entire game, giving up 17 hits to csu-pueblo. She had three strikeouts. Csup was guided by lead-off hitter janine tyler with four hits, two runs and two rbi.
