Bears pillage Vikings

st. Paul, minn. - #3 concordia took a 3-1 win over #8 augustana college in a non-conference afternoon match at the cu radisson-roseville tournament in st. Paul, minn. The golden bears won 25-22, 25-23, 16-25, 25-13 to improve to 10-1 on the year, while augie continues to slide with their third loss of the weekend, falling to 7-4. Concordia plays alaska-anchorage in the final match of the tournament at 7:30 pm tonight.

emily palkert tied the team's and her own season high with 20 kills, hitting .325 over the duration of the win. whitney meierotto had an outstanding all around match with 15 kills and a team high 23 digs. maggie mcnamara guided the offense with 55 assists for the second time this season and kept the ball off the floor with ten digs for a double-double.

the golden bears hit .217 in the match with 60 kills and 74 digs. Augie had 41 digs while hitting .122 and had 62 digs. Concordia controlled the net game with nine blocks, including five block assists from maria steinhagen, while augustana had five team blocks.

concordia controlled the tempo of the match through the first two games, holding off the viking attack with solid defense and an aggressive offense. The cu offense faltered to a .023 average in the third game, resulting in augie's 25-16 win. Eight of augustana's last nine points were a direct result of concordia errors. The team came back in the final game with a strong performance, while the vikings had a rough go of it, committing eight hitting errors and tabbing only six kills.

katie newgard led the vikings with nine kills. Cayla schroeder had a team high 16 digs and also notched eight kills.
