freshman emily weimelt opened her collegiate scoring with a bang on sunday afternoon, dropping a hat trick on st. Francis (ill.) to give the golden bears (1-1) a 3-0 win. Concordia plays their home opener on wednesday afternoon, hosting northwestern college at 4:00 pm.
weimelt took care of all of the scoring in the game, drilling a goal in the first half at the 6:52 mark to give concordia an early edge. Two more goals came from weimelt in the second half, one at the 56:42 mark and a final at the 83:16 mark. Her first score was assisted by freshman savannah nolen, while the second half set of goals came unassisted. This is the first hat trick for a concordia athlete since hillary johnson notched four goals against minnesota, crookston on october 7 of last season.
the golden bears controlled the pace of the entire game, taking 14 shots on goal while keeping st. Francis without a look at the net. Weimelt was responsible for five of the team's shots on goal, with nolen adding another two. Keeper hannah turgerson gained the easy win, not having to make a save in the game.
