Golden bears take three at nsic crossover

Concordia (14-8, 3-0 nsic) opened the nsic season with three wins at the first day of the nsic crossover in wayne, ne on saturday. The golden bears defeated the university of mary 6-2 in the first game of the day, bemidji state 10-1 in game two and minnesota crookston 9-1 in the third game of the day.

game 1 - concordia 6, mary 2
after mary opened the game with two runs in the top of the first inning, natalie mast (jr., oakdale, mn) led off the bottom of the first for concordia with a single and advanced to second on a successful sacrifice bunt by senior nicole tischler (st. Paul, mn). Mast advanced to third on her 26th stolen base of the year and would give the golden bears a 1-0 lead on a single by abby brundidge (so., nekoosa, wi).

mast would score again in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2 on a single to left field, her 27th stolen base and another single by brundidge.

the bears opend up the game in the bottom of the fourth inning by bringing nine batters to the plate and scoring four runs on four hits, two maurader errors and a successful sacrifice bunt by josey olson (so., columbia heights, mn). In the inning senior mallory olson (stillwater, mn) hit her sixth double of the year and recorded an rbi.

freshman stephanie schmikla (madison, wi) evened her record at 4-4 on the year allowing two runs, only one earned, on nine hits with two strikeouths and a walk.

the golden bears scored six runs on seven hits and two mary errors. Brundidge went 3-3 with two rbi.

game 2 - concordia 10, bemidji state 1 (5 innings)
sophomore tiffani rodd (cloquet, mn) gave concordia a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with her third home run of the season, scoring abby brundidge who had singled just ahead of rodd.

the golden bears added three more runs in the second inning. They opened the inning with a double to right center by sami mattson (fr., esko, mn). After a walk to josey olson, natalie mast would single to left field to score mattson and j. Olson. Mast would later score on a single up the middle by nicole tishcler, giving the bears a 5-0 lead.

in the third inning, anna bjorlin (so., hermantown, mn) connected on her first home run of the season and after a walk to mallory olson, mattson would hit her first career home run to left center field giving concordia an 8-0 lead.

they added two mor in the bottom of the fourth inning on four hits to end the game after bemidji state had their chance in the fifth inning.

mattson finished the game going 3-3 with a double, a home run and four rbi, while rodd went 2-3 with a home run and two rbi.

junior jenny kaminski (columbia heights, mn) improved to 7-2 on the year allowing only one unearned run on eight hits.

the golden bears finished with ten runs on ten hits. Each team committed one error.

game 3 - concordia 9, minnesota crookston 1 (6 innings)
for the third straight game of the day, the golden bears scored in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Concordia scored three runs on three hits, but stole five bases in the first inning.

natalie mast tied her school record of 29 stolen bases (in 31 attempts) in a single-season with two stolen bases in the first inning after reaching on a walk. abby brundidge and anna bjorlin each had an rbi single and a stolen base in the inning.

minnesota crookston scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning on a pair of extra base hits off of freshman cassye mcmahon (rescue, ca), who improved to 3-2 on the year with the six inning, three hit win as all three pitchers earned wins on the day. She struck out seven batters, while walking three in the win.

concordia scored one in the bottom of the fourth on a single by bjorlin, a sacrifice bunt by mallory olson and a rbi single to center field by sami mattson.

the golden bears added four more in the fifth inning on a triple by bjorlin, a double by mast and a home run by tiffany rodd.

the would get the game ending run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single by molli lenzi (fr., st. Paul, mn) and a pair of errors by the golden eagles on a ball hit by jackie berg (lake forest park, wa).

concordia will play northern state at 12:00 and msu moorhead at 2:00 in the second day of action of the nsic crossover in wayne on sunday.
