Concordia wins sixth straight with two more at nsic crossover

Concordia (16-8, 5-0 nsic) won its sixth straight game and improved to 5-0 in the nsic with a 10-0, five inning win over northern state and a 4-3 come from behind win over msu moorhead at the second day of the nsic crossover in wayne, neb. On sunday afternoon.

game 1 - concordia 10, northern state 0 (5 innings)
freshman sami mattson (esko, mn) gave the golden bears a 1-0 lead in the second inning with her second career home run.

sophomore anna bjorlin (hermantown, mn) extended the lead to 4-0 in the third with her second homerun in as many days, scoring nicole tischler (sr., st. Paul, mn) and abby brundidge (so., neekoosa, wi), who had both singled to get on base.

the golden bears sent ten batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored six runs on five hits, a wolves error and a walk to take the 10-0 win.

in the inning junior natalie mast (oakdale, mn) stole her 30th base of the season , breaking her own school record of 29 stolen bases in a single season. She now ha a school-record 67 stolen bases in her career.

freshman cassye mcmahon (rescue, ca) pitched a two-hit shut out striking out five and walking two to improve to 4-2 on the season.

the golden bears finished the game with ten runs on 11 hits. Brundidge continued her hot hitting going 3-3 with two runs and two rbi. Mattson was also 2-3 with two runs scored and two rbi.

concordia was down to its last out in the bottom of the seventh inning, down 3-2 when the golden bears rallied to earn the 4-3 win on three hits and a pair of wild pitches by msu moorhead pitcher julie vancura.

the dragons jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on concordia freshman stephanie schmikla (madison, wi) on a leadoff walk and a pair of hits.

the golden bears tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third after josey olson (so., columbia heights, mn) reached on a dragon error. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by nikki scherr (so., stewartville, mn). With two outs, nicole tischler singled, with j. Olson advancing to third. abby brundidge then singled to left field scoring both olson and tischler.

msu moorhead retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a double by vancura and a two out single up the middle by carly lindseth to take a 3-2 lead.

concordia had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth when the golden bears had anna bjorlin on third base and mallory olson (sr., stillwater, mn) on second with one out. But msu pitcher vancura got scherr to strike out and natalie mast to pop up in the infield to end the threat.

in the bottom of the seventh, down 3-2, tischler began the inning with a leadoff bunt, but was thrown out at second on a fielder's choice by brundidge. She would then advance to second on a wild pitch. tiffany rodd (so., cloquet, mn) would account for the second out of the inning, grounding out to the short stop.

with two outs and brundidge on second base anna bjorlin singled to centerfield, scoring brundidge. Bjorlin would advance to second on the play and move to third on a wild pitch. She would score on a mallory olson single to left field, giving concordia the 4-3 win.

concordia scored the four runs on 11 hits. Brundidge was 3-4 with a run and two rbi. Tischler, m. Olson and bjorlin each had two hits in the game.

schmikla improved to 5-4 with the win. She allowed the three earned runs on seven hits and four walks, while striking out four.

note - abby brundidge has now hit safely in her last seven games, going 18-23 in her last seven games with 11 rbi and nine runs scored.
