Concordia (22-15, 11-3 nsic) posted back-to-back shutouts at the second day of the nsic crossover in bismarck, nd. The golden bears defeated northern state 4-0 in game one and 6-0 against minnesota crookston.
game 1 - concordia 4, northern state 0freshman
stephanie schmikla (madison, wi) pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the golden bears to a 4-0 victory. It was her fifth shutout of the season as she improved to 9-8 on the season.
the golden bears got on the board first with two runs in the first inning after a leadoff walk to junior
natalie mast (oakdale, mn). Mast stole her school-record 37th base of the season. She scored on a sacrifice bunt by senior
nicole tischler (st. Paul, mn), who reached on a wolves error. After tischler stole second, she would score on a single by sophomore
anna bjorlin (hermantown, mn).
concordia added another run in the second inning on a leadoff walk to freshman
cassye mcmahon (rescue, ca). She advanced to second on
nikki scherr (so., stewartville, mn) and would score on a pair of errors by northern state.
with two outs in the top of the sixth,
abby brundidge (so., nekoosa, wi) hit her first triple of the season and scored on a nsu error giving concordia a 4-0 lead.
schmikla allowed just three hits and three walks, while striking out five to get the win.
the golden bears scored four runs on just four hits and three northern state errors.
game 2 - concordia 6, um crookston 0freshman
cassye mcmahon struck out a career-high eight batters as she led the golden bears to a 6-0 win. It was her second career shutout and tenth shutout of the season by the cu pitching staff.
anna bjolin went 2-2 with her nsic leading fifth triple of the day in the second inning. She also had two walks and two rbi in the game and scored once.
abby brundidge was also 2-4 with a run scored and a rbi. As a team, concordia scored six runs (only two earned) on seven hits and four golden eagle errors.
mcmahon finished the game allowing three hits, with six walks.
