Defensive pressure too much for cu

the golden bears drew first blood, however, as they marched on their opening drive, going 11 plays and 52 yards taking over six minutes off the clock. But the wayne defense held strong inside the five, forcing cu to settle for a 25 yard field goal by junior stephan bjerke (stillwater, minn.).

the wildcats answered with a long drive of their own, going 71 yards on 12 plays taking over five more minutes off the clock but their drive resulted in a five yard touchdown run by quarterback silas fluellen to give wsc a 7-3 lead late in the first.

early in the second quarter, cu was burned with a turnover deep in their own territory, setting the wildcats up on the 15 yard line as they walked into the end zone in three plays in less than a minute as eric meyer broke through the goal line for the first of his two touchdowns.

the golden bears were not down 14-3 for very long, though, as sophomore hayden vavra (cambridge, minn.), a former quarterback, converted to running back and now tight end, hit senior tyrone ruffin (plymouth, minn.) for a 65 yard scoring strike on the next play to bring concordia back to a 14-10 deficit.
