Behnke leads golden bears to 14th straight win at u-mary

Senior center amanda behnke (eagan, minn.) scored 25 points to lead #5 concordia university (14-0, 5-0 nsic) to an 84-63 victory at the university of mary (9-5, 4-2 nsic) on saturday evening in bismarck, n.d.

the golden bears used 10-0 and 9-0 runs in the first half to turn an 18-14 lead with 11:02 to play into a commanding 47-24, 23 point lead nearing the end of the first half.

concordia paced into the locker room ahead 47-26 behind 12 points and nine assists by senior point guard katie laviolette (manitowoc, wis.).

the marauders would get no closer than 17 points within the golden bears, who led by as much as 27, 58-31, with 15:55 to play.

laviolette would end up with a double-double, scoring 14 points with 12 assists, leaving her five assists shy of equaling deb harms' career record of 643 assists. Laviolette already holds the single-season assists record with 297 last year, and the division ii-era record with 638. She also had six rebounds and six assists, shooting 6-10 from the floor in 37 minutes.

behnke finished the game 7-12 from the floor and 11-16 at the stripe in 33 minutes.

for the second straight night, concordia hit 10 three-pointers, shooting 58.8% (10-17) from behind the arc. They also shot 50.0% (27-54) from the floor and 76.9% (20-26) from the foul line.

sophomore guard jamie jones (mounds view, minn.) led the three-point shooting effort, converting all three of her attempts and scoring 10 points. Senior guard kelly lund (new brighton, minn.) drained a pair of three's in six attempts to score eight points while sophomore guard kali olstad (elgin, minn.) was 2-3 from three-point range and also scored eight points.

concordia committed just 11 turnovers while forcing 17 which led to a 27-6 edge in points off turnovers.

u-mary was led by liz sipma, who scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench before fouling out in 18 minutes. She was the only marauder in double-figures.

the marauders shot 6-9 from three-point range but just 13-23 from the stripe.

concordia returns to the floor next weekend when they host upper iowa on friday and winona state on saturday. Both games are 6:00 p.m. Tip-offs the weekend of jan. 11-12 at the gangelhoff center.
