#3 concordia university (15-0, 6-0 nsic) continued their perfect season with a 70-53 win over upper iowa (4-14, 0-6 nsic) on friday evening at the gangelhoff center. Concordia has won 12 of their games by double-figures on the year.

concordia led from coast-to-coast, storming out to an 11-2 lead before uiu put in nine straight. The golden bears held the peacocks to just two points in the opening seven minutes.

they narrowed the lead to one, 23-22 with 3:51 to play in the half before the golden bears took a 28-24 lead into the break.

the defense started the second half as strong as they started the game, holding upper iowa to four points in the first 8:24 until paige devine's lay-up made it 47-30 concordia at the 11:36 mark.

concordia was paced by senior center amanda behnke's (eagan, minn.) 15 points on 7-10 shooting, needing just 22 minutes to do her damage.

senior point guard katie laviolette (manitowoc, wis.), needing just five assists to equal deb harms' school record 643 career assists, ended up with just two on the evening, put poured in 12 points on 5-10 shooting in 27 minutes. The two assists was a season-low and is just the first time this year she didn't record five in a game.

kelly lund (sr., g, new brighton, minn.) scored nine points, sophomore guard jamie jones (mounds view, minn.) had eight and senior center whitney smetana (merrifield, minn.) had eight points and six rebounds.

concordia was efficient from the field, shooting 57.8% (26-45) while holding uiu to 39.2% (20-51) shooting. It was the 13th time this season concordia has held their opponent to sub-40.0% shooting.

despite a scoreless first half, concordia's bench rebounded with 27 of cu's 42 points in the second half.

both teams struggled at the line, each taking 25 attempts. Concordia made 14 (56.0%) to upper iowa's 11 (44.0%). Lund was 7-8 from the stripe.
