raina hein pounded 16 kills at a .433 clip as no. 6 concordia-st. Paul breezed past millersville (penn.) university in three games, 30-15, 30-20, 30-12 on saturday evening at the gangelhoff center.
the win for the bears gave them a perfect 4-0 mark at the first-ever ramada downtown minneapolis/concordia tournament. The bears were the only of the six teams to go undefeated at the two-day, 12 match event.
hein was one of three golden bears to reach double-digit kills as
emily palkert had 14 and
kasey woodcock added 13. Hein committed just three errors in 30 attempts, woodcock just two in 22 and palkert five in 26 attempts. Woodcock posted a .500 pct. While palkert came in at .346.
junior
whitney meierotto, who opened the season with three double-doubles, just missed making it four in a row finishing with nine kills and 13 digs.
the bears hit .328 as a team, killing 59 in 125 attempts with just 18 team errors in the three games. The attack was set by
maggie mcnamara, who had 47 assists while adding seven digs and three aces.
the defensive effort was once again led by sophomore
mary slinger. She had 28 digs as the bears had a 66-45 advantage in that department.
