The sixth-ranked concordia-st. Paul volleyball team defeated barry university (fla.) in three games, 30-13, 30-24, 30-28 on the second day of the ramada downtown minneapolis/concordia tournament at the gangelhoff center.
the bears, who cruised past the buccaneers in the first game, were led by junior
whitney meierotto's 16 kills and 10 digs. Meierotto has started off the 2007 season with three consecutive double-doubles. She had just one attack error in 28 attempts for a .536 pct.
sophomore
sadie kessler was the only other bear to reach double-figures in kills with 12 while hitting .333, pushing five assists and collecting five digs and four blocks in a well-balanced performance.
maggie mcnamara had 39 assists while setting a concordia attack that hit .279 for the match. In all, six golden bears recorded at least one assist in the match.
once again concordia held a significant advantage in digs, with 61 to barry's 47. Sophomore
mary slinger had 12 as did mcnamara who earned a double-double performance.
rachel knutsen had nine digs and
krista erickson had eight.
freshman
emily palkert had nine kills and four blocks as well.
the bears close out their season-opening tournament this evening when they host millersville at 7:30.
