Brundidge sparks bears in comeback win over marauders

Concordia university completed a late game comeback, trailing 9-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 10-9 victory over the university of mary (n.d.) in the nsic crossover at dunning softball complex in st. Paul, minn. The bears improve to 14-10, 1-0 nsic while the marauders fall to 15-10, 0-1 nsic. Freshman abby brundidge delivered in the clutch for concordia with five rbi, going 2-4 with a pair of two-run doubles.

the seventh inning rally by the golden bears came with two outs, as natalie mast drilled a hard line out to center to lead off before nicole tischler was barely thrown out on a bunt attempt to first.

that brought up the top of the order with anna bjorlin starting the magic with a double to deep left center field. She scored on the next play when melissa bergdall knocked her in on a single to left. amanda yurek followed with a single through the right side, giving concordia runners on first and second with the tying run in scoring position.

that's when the golden bears delivered the knock-out punch as brundidge found the right center field gap with a game-winning two-run double.

concordia took the first lead, going up 2-0 with a pair of unearned runs in the first. Yurek had a sac fly to center and mallory olson had an rbi single.

the marauders would score the next six runs, however, with three in the second and three more in the fourth on a three run homer by kaitlyn richardson.

trailing 6-2, the bears would answer with three more in the bottom half of the inning on a two run double by brundidge.

andrea brunskill added mary's second three-run shot of the game in the top of the sixth to put the marauders back on top by four, 9-5 with just six outs to play when the bears delivered their late inning heroics.

senior mandy turba earned the victory with a complete game, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits with six strikeouts and three walks to improve to 6-7.

bergdall went 3-4 with three runs and two rbi for concordia while yurek finished 3-3 with two runs and an rbi and bjorlin went 1-3 with two walks and three runs.

the bears continue action in the crossover when they face northern state at 1:00.
