Concordia university (24-27) dropped their first two games of the day before rebounding with a win in the third game to finish 1-2 on the first day of the microtel inn suites classic in north mankato, minn. the bulldogs scored quick in the top of the first and added another in the fifth to pull ahead 2-0 while the bears sputtered on offense, stranding a runner on second in the first and fourth innings and runners on first and third in the fifth.
the bears finally pushed a run across in the sixth when
anna bjorlin drilled a one out double to right, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored when
abby brundidge delivered a sacrifice fly to center.
but umd capitalized on four concordia errors in the seventh to put up six more runs to take a seven run lead, 8-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
the bears managed just two hits on offense and stranded five runners on in the loss.
mandy turba took the loss, pitching a complete game allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits while striking out four.

concordia would mount a rally in the bottom of the sixth when j.olson and yurek produced back-to-back one out singles to put runners on first and second.
