The concordia university softball team picked up a pair of victories over future nsic-member st. Cloud state university on the road on monday afternoon. The bears won the first game 7-1 before a 6-4 win to register the sweep in st. Cloud, minn.
the first game was scoreless until the bears bursted out with a five run fourth inning.
tiffani rodd doubled to lead off the inning and scored when
nikki scherr followed with an rbi triple. After a
nicole tischler single and stolen base,
anna bjorlin delivered a two-run single. Two more runs came in courtesy of
abby brundidge, giving concordia a 5-0 lead.
that was all
mandy turba needed as she shut down the husky offense. Turba scattered two runs and seven hits over seven strong innings. She finished with two strikeouts and two walks as she improved to 5-7 on the season.
concordia's offense pounded out 13 hits in the game, led by rodd's 3-4 effort. Rodd had a pair of doubles, a stolen base and a run.
of concordia's 13 hits, six went for extra bases as
alyssa wachter was 1-1 with a pinch hit double,
amanda yurek went 2-4 with a triple and two runs, scherr was 1-4 with a triple, a run and an rbi and
mallory olson smacked her first home run of the season.
bjorlin and tischler also registered two-hit performances, bjorlin finishing 2-5 with two rbi and a run while tischler went 2-3 with a run and a steal.
in the second game, the bears wasted no time jumping on top, scoring in each of the first four innings, building a 5-3 lead.
in the first, the bears manufactured two runs that were knocked in by brundidge's two run single. Bjorlin and m.olson produced rbi singles in the second and third innings, respectively. In the fourth,
natalie mast walked, stole second and scored on the play as scsu's throw sailed past second base and into center field and past the center fielder to give the bears their 5-3 lead.
with
jenny kaminiski in the circle, the bears offense had produced enough for the victory. Concordia added an insurance run in the sixth to take a three run lead. Scsu got another run back in the seventh, but kaminski was able to close the door to improve to 8-3.
kaminski went the distance, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks.
concordia recorded 10 hits including four doubles. Brundidge capped off an impressive performance at selke field, going 3-4 with a run and two rbi. M.olson and bjorlin each went 2-4 with an rbi as well.
the bears will open their nsic schedule this thursday when they host wayne state for a double-header at 3:30 at dunning softball complex. This weekend, concordia will also host the nsic crossover at dunning and will play five total games in two days on friday and saturday.
