Jake Schmidt pitched a five-hit complete game shutout as the Bears earned 7-0 win in the first game against Pittsburg State, but Concordia's six-game winning streak came to an end in a 12-1 loss in the second game of the double-header.
Schmidt gave the Bears the first shutout of the season striking out one and walking one in seven strong innings, while the Concordia offense scored seven runs on ten hits. J
ake Waldman went 2-2 with a homerun, a sacrifice and three rbi, while
Derek Mason went 2-4 with two doubles and two rbi in the win.
The Bears didn't fare as well in game two as they were held to a season-low one run on five hits. The run came in the sixth inning when the Bears strung together three straight hits on a single by
Matt Borman, a double by Waldman and a rbi single by
Brenden Furrow.
The Gorillas scored 12 runs on 16 hits, including two doubles and two home runs.
Derek Mason took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings.
Concordia is now 9-3 on the season, while Pittsburg State is 9-9 on the young season. The Bears will be off until March 24-25 when they open the NSIC season with the Beavers of Bemidji State coming to Bob Barnes Field.
