The Concordia baseball team (10-4, 1-1 NSIC) earned a split with Bemidji State (3-15, 1-1 NSIC) in the NSIC opener for both schools at veterans field in Minnetonka. Concordia won the first game 6-1, but dropped the second game 4-2.
John Maciej delivered the big blow to the beavers in the first game hitting a three-run home run over the left-centerfield fence in the fourth inning capping a five-hit, four-run inning for Concordia. The Bears got on the board first in the second inning after a pair of walks to
Andy Judkins and
Jacob Schmidt, then Maciej drove the ball down the left field line scoring Judkins. Maciej finished the game 2-3 with four rbi.
Matt Borman earned the win on the mound giving up one run on three hits. The Bears scored six runs on seven hits.
Borman led off the bottom of the first inning in game two with a deep home run over the centerfield fence. The Bears would add one more in the second inning after Judkins walked and a double by Maciej, moved Judkins to third. Judkins would score on a wild pitch. The Bears bats would be held in check the rest of the game as they would finish with six hits.
The Beavers scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning on a walk and four hits.
Blake Devries took the loss allowing three runs on five hits. He also had six strikeouts and five walks.
The two teams will square off against each other again on Sunday at 12:00 at Minnetonka High School.
