scored a game-high 25 points in leading concordia (4-1) to a 66-47 win over minnesota duluth (4-2) in romano gymnasium in duluth. Cadwell shot 10-16 from the field, including an impressive 4-5 from three point range in leading the bears to their first road win of the season.
the bears jumped out to a 8-0 lead over the first 3:14 minutes, but the bulldogs responded and tied the game at 12-12 at 11:36 of the first half, marking the only tie of the game. Minnesota duluth held the lead only twice in the game at 17-16 at 7:21 of the first half and at 19-17 with 6:42 to play in the first half.
from that point the bears had back-to-back three point field goals from cadwell, followed by back-to-back three's from
matt hackl (seymour, wi), and
craig heiman (marshall, wi) and a layup by
mike cunningham (minneapolis, mn) to take a 30-23 lead. The bears would take a 33-28 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
heiman scored the first five points of the second half for concordia, giving the bears a 38-30 lead and the bears would allow the bulldogs to get no closer than two points at 38-36 with 17:12 to play. From that point on, concordia would outscore minnesota duluth 28-11.
with concordia holding a 50-43 lead with 10:39 to play, the golden bears went on a 16-4 run to end the game with heiman scoring six and cadwell ten, including the final eight of the game for concordia. From 7:43 to 0:44 of the second half the bears held the bulldogs scoreless, increasing their lead from 54-45 to 66-45 before umd would score the last two points of the game.
heiman finished the night with sixteen points, on 6-11 shooting. He was 2-5 from three point range and 2-2 from the free throw line. He added seven rebounds and an assist in 38 minutes.
concordia dominated the inside, scoring 34 points in the paint, compared to only 14 for minnesota duluth. The bears held a 40-29 edge on the glass over the bulldogs with cunningham leading the way with a team-high eight rebounds.
the bulldogs were led by brian sykora's 15 points and eight rebounds. Jordan nuness added 12 in the loss.
the bears forced 17 umd turnovers, but committed 19 of their own.
neither team was in foul trouble as only 24 fouls were called on the night and only 14 free throws were taken. The bears were 4-5 from the charity stripe, while minnesota duluth was only 4-9.
concordia's shooting was consistent both half, as the bears were 14-28 (.500) in the first half and 13-26 (.500) in the second half to finish 27-54 (.500).
the bears held minnesota duluth to 19-57 (.333) from the field, and 8-27 (.296) in the second half and only 5-20 (.200) from beyond the arc.
the golden bears will open nsic play on satuday, dec. 1 at 8:00 when travel partner msu moorhead visits the gangelhoff center.
