Bears let 11 point second half lead slip away in 66-62 loss to winona state

katie laviolette scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the second half, but it was not enough as the women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the nsic season, dropping a 66-62 decision at winona state. The bears fall to 7-8 (4-2 nsic) and into a three-way tie for second in the nsic.

laviolette played all 40 minutes for the bears and shot 9-16 from the field, including 1-2 from three point range and 1-1 from the free throw line. She added five rebounds, three assists and three steals in an all-around effort.

the bears took a 29-25 lead into the break and extended that lead to 11 at 44-33 with a layup by amanda behnke at 14:18 left in the game. Behnke finished the game as the only other bear in double-figures with 17 points on 7-15 from the field and 3-6 from the free throw line.

the warriors chipped away at the bears lead slowly in the second half and tied the game at 57-57 with 4:16 to play. It would be the only tie of the game. Winona state would take the lead at 59-57 with 2:43 left. Behnke had a chance to tie it, but made only one of two free throws at 2:26. Winona state would make a layup to take a 61-58 lead with 1:17 left forcing the bears to foul the warriors. Winona state would make 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

concordia finished the game making 25-61 (41.0%), including 4-14 from three and 8-11 (72.7%) from the free throw line. They held the warriors to 21-55 (38.2%), with 6-15 (40%) from three and 18-23 (78.3%) from the free throw line.

concordia was outrebounded 40-35. kelly lund had a team-high seven rebounds for the bears. Lund finished with eight points, three rebounds and two steals in 32 minutes of action.

winona state had three players in double-figures, led by amanda reimer and jamie majerwicz with 15, while kayleigh lutz had 11 in the win.

the bears will look to get back in the win column as they travel to fayette, iowa to face upper iowa in nsic action on saturday night.
