In concordia's first ever meeting with the university of mary, the bears came from behind to earn a 22-19 win. With 2:00 left in the game,
john robinson scored his second touchdown of the day on a two-yard run to give the bears the win.
mary scored first with a 30 yard field goal, but the bears scored 15 unanswered. Robinson scored on a one-yard run at 7:47 in the second quarter to give the bears a 6-3 lead after the extra point was missed.
aaron cawthorn (right) was the bears workhorse as he ran the ball 21 times for 163 yards, including an 89 touchdown run, tying a school-record for longest run from scrimmage. The run came at 11:56 of the third quarter to give csp a 13-3 lead.
eric power then recorded the first safety since 2003 to give the bears the 15-3 lead at 10:44.
mary put together a 8-play 77 yard drive to cut the lead to 15-10 on a 22 yard completion and a 27-yard field goal was followed by a 7-play 61 yard drive that put the marauders up 19-15 with 7:38 to play.
the bears totalled 245 yards of total offense, with cawthown racking up 163 of those on the ground.
kole goodchild was 10-15 for 53 yards in the air with two interceptions.
antwon williams had three catches for 11 yards,
eric tonkin caught three balls for 11 yards and
tyrone ruffin caught two balls for 16 yards.
the bears defense gave up 329 yards of total offense, but only 22 yards on the ground.
brad scherer (right) led the defense with nine tackles, with 2.5 for a loss and a sack.
jordan frain and
duy huynh each had seven tackles in the game.
with the win, the bears even their record to 2-2 (1-0 nsic). They will host winona state next sat., sept. 30th at 6:00 in griffin stadium.
