katie johnson scored on concordia's only shot in the first half and that was enough as the bears shut out the fighting sioux of north dakota 1-0 at concordia field friday afternoon. Johnson beat the sioux defense in the 31st minute on assists by rachel vitense and emily grannes.

both teams had their chances in the second half but neither could capitalize. Concordia had its best chance to take a 2-0 lead when vitense had a point-blank shot on goal that was stopped by a diving, ashley rohwer in the 85th minute. Megan tracy of und got past the csp defense in the 87th minute, but missed a shot wide that would have tied the game.

the bears defense survived a late rally by und as they had five shots in the final ten mintues. keyton wheelock stopped seven sioux shots to earn her first win in a cu uniform. For the game, the bears were outshot 17-7.

concordia is now 2-6 on the year and will play on sunday at msu moorhead.
