The concordia volleyball team moved to 4-0 on the season with a pair of wins at the nova southeastern tournament saturday afternoon in fort lauderdale, fl, defeating fort hays state 3-0 (30-12, 30-16, 30-21) and #16 florida gulf coast 3-2 (30-23, 23-30, 28-30, 30-27, 15-10).
against fort hays state, senior
ashley olson (left) paced the bears attack with 11 kills, while
kelsey kyro had nine and
jessica lucia had eight. As a team, the bears recorded 42 kills, with a .325 hitting percentage, while limiting fort hays to 28 kills, 27 errors and a .010 hitting percentage.
in the bears match against #16 florida gulf coast, freshman
maggie mcnamara (right) set a new school record with 75 set assists in the game, breaking all-american cailin terhaar's record of 72 (2003). In the game, both teams had 80-plus kills and five players in double-digits in kills. Concordia had 85 kills in the game while florida gulf coast had 81.
olson recorded the teams first double-double on the season, with 11 kills and 14 digs. Kyro led the bears with a season-high 22 kills, while lucia added 21.
monica mcnamara added 17 kills and
maria steinhagen had 12.
megan graham had 29 of the teams 86 digs. As a team, the bears hit .250 (85 k, 28 e, 228 ta) while fgc hit .273 (81 k, 25 e, 205 ta).
concordia will return to action on sept. 1-2 when they travel to the denver premier tournament.
