Bears complete sweep of Northern State with 14-7, 5-3 wins

The Concordia baseball completed the weekend sweep of Northern State Friday afternoon at Bob Barnes field with 14-7 and 5-3 wins. The Bears have now won five straight and are 19-9 (5-5 NSIC).

The Bears opened the day with the first five batters in game one scoring. Concordia scored nine runs in the first inning on seven singles, two walks and an error by Northern State.

In the fourth inning the Bears would pick up two more runs on a double by Jake Waldman (left) followed by a triple by Alex Kubal. Kubal would score on a single by Chris Duda up the middle. Jacob Campion had a solid day on the mound, allowing two runs through the first five innings, before getting in trouble in the sixth inning, giving up five runs on five hits. Kirk Ingram (right) came in and got the Bears out of the inning and pitched a no-hit seventh inning.

For the game, the Bears scored 14 runs on 13 hits. Campion picked up his first win on the season, striking out two in 5.1 innings. Greg Winegarden went 2-3 with a double and triple, while Jake Waldman went 2-3 with a double and three rbi. Bobby Meier also went 3-3 with two runs and two rbi.

In game two, Waldman hit his fifth homerun on the year, to go along with a double to account for three of Concordia's four runs. Winegarden and Duda each also had two hits as the Bears scored five runs on nine hits.

Jacob Schmidt got hit first career college win as he pitched five inning allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Ingram got his fourth save on the year pitching two complete innings allowing only two hits and two strikeouts.

The Bears will play their last home games of the season on April 19 against St. Cloud state at 2:00.
