The concordia softball team earned a split friday afternoon against missouri western in st. Charles, missouri. The bears won the first game 6-3, but dropped the second 12-8 in their first action since they returned from florida on march 3.

in the first game, amanda yurek (left) hit a home run in the first inning to give the bears the lead, and the team scored five in the top of the sixth to earn the win. Concordia had ten hits in the first game, with two by tracie enzler, vanessa dufresne and yurek. kristen schmidt got the win on the mound, giving up three runs on three hits and striking out seven.

in the second game, the bears defense committed four errors and the pitching staff gave up 12 runs, but only six runs were earned. mandy turba took the loss, giving up 11 runs (six earned) on ten hits and striking out two. The offense recorded eight runs on eight hits, with kristin linell (right) doing the damage, hitting a grand slam home run in the third inning. Dufresne also had two hits in the game.

the bears will return to action tomorrow when they play truman state, emporia state and central missouri state in the first day of the missouri western tournament.
