katie laviolette tallied a career-high 14 assists in leading the bears to a 92-64 win over southwest minnesota state in the first round of the 2006 nsic red baron classic.
laviolette had eight assists in the first half as the bears jumped out to a 41-24 halftime lead. Senior
ashley smith (right) went 5-6 in the first half and had 13 points at the break. She would finish with a team-high 16 points as five bears would score in double-figures.
nakia carlisle (left) would score all-her points in the second half, finishing with 13.
mary schroeder and
janine kuklis would each finish with 14 and
amanda behnke had 12 with a team-high seven rebounds.
the bears shot 30-59 (50.8%) from the field and a season-high 29-33 (87.9%) from the free throw line, while they held the mustangs to 20-63 (31.7%) from the field. The bears also outrebounded smsu 42-35.
concordia will play northern state in the semifinals on saturday, mar. 4 at 2:00 in wayne, neb.
