Third-seeded concordia university (19-10) fell 71-50 to second-seeded northern state (24-5) in the 2006 nsic red baron women's basketball classic semifinals on saturday afternoon in wayne, neb.

senior guard ashley smith was the only golden bear to score in double-figures for concordia as she poured in 16 points on 6-13 shooting while collecting eight rebounds. Senior guard nakia carlisle and sophomore point guard katie laviolette each added nine points, but the duo combined to shoot 5-18 from the field. No other bear managed to score more than four points in the contest.

concordia shot just 24.1% (7-29) in the second half while the wolves converted at a 44.8% (13-29) clip to pull away.

nsu was led by noelle hall's 20 points and nine rebounds. She shot 10-13 from the field in 24 minutes. Ali chmielewski added 17 points, six rebounds and six assists and miranda boepple pitched in 14 points on perfect 11-11 free throw shooting.

the golden bears will now await an at-large berth to the ncaa north central regional tournament. Teams will be announced tomorrow evening at 10 p.m.
