The Concordia-St. Paul baseball team started the 2006 season with a pair of wins, 5-4 and 11-6 over Gannon University in Fort Myers, Florida.
Geoff Bray earned the win in the first game pitching 6.2 innings, while
Eric Utoft got the win in game two.
Ryan Fixell got the save in both games.
in the first game, the bears scored five runs on only three hits, with the big one being a home run by
Galen Wetzell. Wetzell went 2-3 in the game. Bray pitched 6.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and striking out two.
The Concordia bats came alive in the second game, where the Bears scored 11 runs on ten hits.
Erik Quarberg went 2-5 with a double and a triple and three rbi.
Bobby Meier, Mason Reinhart and
Alex Kubal each had two hits in the game. Utoft pitched 4.1 innings and gave up six earned runs.
Nick Davis and Fixell each pitched 2/3 scoreless innings to preserve the win.
