the concordia softball team defeated washburn 3-1 in the first game of the day at the husky dome classic in st. Cloud, but fell to host st. Cloud state 3-2 later in the day.
against washburn, the bears would string three hits and two sacrifice hits together in the fourth inning to score three runs. amanda yurek and mallory olson would each have doubles in the inning.
that would be all the run support that mandy turba would need as she pitched a five-hit complete game, allowing only one run. The bears would collect seven hits in the game, with three off the bat of yurek.
in the second game, st. Cloud state scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to steal the win from the bears. Concordia got on the board in the fourth inning on a two-run homerun by nikki smith.
kristen schmidt had a solid pitching performance through five innings before scsu rallied with five hits in the sixth inning, including two doubles and a homerun. She ended the game giving up three runs on five hits and striking out three. She falls to 2-1 on the season.
the bears are now 3-1 on the season. They will be in action again on feb. 26th in fort myers, where they will play gannon and wheeling jesuit on the first day of their spring trip.
