Bears drain 17 three's, cruise to hit century mark again

The concordia men's basketball team (8-1) continued their strong early season play, defeating the university of wisconsin-river falls (4-6) 105-72 on saturday evening at the gangelhoff center. The 105 points for the golden bears was the second-highest total of the season while the 17 three-point field goals were a season-high as they shot a blazing 73.9% (17-23).

senior guard kyle marxhausen was on fire, lighting up the falcons for 27 points in just 22 minutes. Marxhausen hit 5-7 from three-point territory and shot 10-18 from the field. He also grabbed four rebounds, had four assists, three steals and a block.

senior point guard joey peel caught the same fire, knocking down all four of his three's, shooting 5-7 from the field and 4-6 at the line as he poured in 18 points, one shy of his career-high. He also dished out a game-high six assists and nabbed six steals without committing a turnover in 24 near-flawless minutes at the point.

the only other bear to reach double-figures in scoring was freshman craig heiman who knocked down 3-5 from long range and 5-8 from the field as he scored 13 points in 15 minutes off the bench. He also had three assists and three rebounds.

in all, five golden bears hit at least two three's as seborn yancy and jason birr were each a perfect 2-2 from downtown while james sarbacker also added a trey as he scored five points, had three rebounds, two assists and a steal in just ten minutes of action.

chuol chany and drew shepp led the bears on the glass with nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Chany also scored six points and had a block while shepp added seven points, and assist and a block. Five of shepp's boards were on the offensive glass while four of chany's were on the offensive end.

it was a typical performance for the squad as the bench was involved early and often, putting up 50 points while limiting uwrf's bench to just 15 points. The bears dominated every specialty stat, outscoring the falcons 32-12 on turnovers, 34-24 in the paint and 12-5 on the break.

concordia also dominated the glass, outrebounding the falcons 52-33 with a 21-13 edge on the offensive boards and a 7-2 margin in blocks.

for the game, concordia shot 48.0% (36-75) while holding uwrf to 38.1% shooting (24-63). The teams shot an identical 69.6% (16-23) at the charity stripe.

concordia led by as much as 33 as they cruised to their fifth straight win.
