The concordia women's basketball team suffered a 59-57 loss at #8 st. Cloud state tuesday night at halenbeck hall in st. Cloud. The bears fall to 0-4 on the young season.
the huskies jumped out to a 9-0 lead just two minutes into the game, but the bears battled back to outscore scsu by 18 to lead 38-29.
katie laviolette led the first-half charge with 16 points on 7-10 shooting from the field, including 2-2 from three point range.
kelly lund added 11 points in the first half to lead the bears.
concordia would take their biggest lead of the night of ten at 41-31 with 17:54 remaining in the game and would lead by nine (45-36) at 10:48. The huskies would rally to take the lead at 50-49 with 5:13 to play in the game.
the two teams would battle back-and-forth over the last five minutes with three ties and neither team leading by more than two points until the huskies converted two free throws with 13-seconds left to give scsu a 59-55 lead as the bears were forced to foul after an offensive foul was called on cu with the bears trailing 57-55. Lund hit a layup as time ran out to finish the scoring at 59-57.
on the night concordia shot 20-65 (30.8) from the field, but only 6-27 from the field (22.2) in the second half. St. Cloud state made 19-62 (30.6) from the field and 11-33 (33.3) in the second half. The huskies held a narrow 48-47 advantage on the boards.
kelly lund led the bears with a career-high 20 points in a concordia uniform, while katie laviolette was held scoreless in the second-half and finished with 16 points.
whitney smetana led the bears with eight rebounds, while
candace olstad had seven points and seven rebounds.
st. Cloud state was led by all-american erika quigley, who had 18 points and 15 rebounds.
the bears will travel to msu moorhead to open nsic action on saturday, dec. 2. Game time is set for 6:00.
