Bears fall to Mary in NSIC semifinals

The second-seeded concordia soccer team fell to the fifth-seeded university of mary 1-0 in the semifinals of the nsic championships in winona.

the marauders scored in the 50th minute on a 20-yard shot by danielle mellow that sliced past concordia keeer keyton wheelock and found the side of the net. The assist went to jessica januska. Wheelock would stop the other five shots she faced in the game.

the game played between the two teams was even throughout as the bears had eight shots, compared to seven to mary in the first half. Both teams had four shots in the second half. Shots on goal for the game was six for mary, with concordia tallying five.

the bears best chance to score in the game came late in the first half when nikki hertel (right) had a header off a kyla rentch corner kick that was saved high in front of the marauders net. sam voeller also had two shots on goal in the game. hillary johnson and rachel vitense each had three shots, with one shot on goal.

with the loss the bears fall to 10-11-1 and will now play in the third-place game on saturday, oct. 28th at 4:00. They will play the loser of the winona state/wayne state game.
