the #2 seed concordia soccer team defeated msu moorhead for the second time in four days to advance to the second round of the nsic tournament for the first time in school history. With the win, the bears also tied a school record with ten wins in a season and won their first postseason game in school history.
krysta briese (above right) got the bears on the board early scoring off a corner kick by kyla rentch (above left) in the 7th minute of the game. It was briese's first goal of the season. nikki hertel (below) extended the bears lead in the 40th minute when she was able to get the ball in front of the msum goal between two defenders. It was also her first goal of the season.
concordia dominated the first half, outshooting the dragons 11-2, with seven shots on goal. The cu defense allowed no shots on goal in the first half and only three in the game. For the game, cu ended with 24 shots, compared to 11 for msum. keyton wheelock got her fifth win on the year stopping two dragon shots.
msu moorhead cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by hila anderson in the 47th minute, but the bears got an insurance goal by rachel vitense (above) in the 57th minute. Assists went to hillary johnson and sam voeller.
the bears will play university of mary on friday, oct. 27th at 3:00 in winona. Winona state will face wayne state in the other semifinal game at 6:00.
