the golden bears used two strong halves to win their seventh game in row and improved to 12-2 (2-0 nsic) with a 91-47 over minnnesota crookston. Seniors ty thomas (left) and kyle marxhausen (right) paced a balanced concordia attack with 17 points apiece.
marxhausen led the team with seven rebounds and four steals and was four of seven from three point range, while thomas grabbed four boards and tied for the team lead with three assists. Senior kenneth pointer and junior marlon walker both added 12 points as the bears shot 55% from the field as a team.
the bears were equally good on the defensive end holding the eagles to 47 points on 28% (13-46) shooting. Concordia forced 26 eagle turnovers, including 13 steals, which led to 37 golden bear points.
concordia led 49-21 at halftime thanks to a strong effort on both ends of the court. Marxhausen had all four of his steals in the first half and also dropped in 11 points. The half was highlighted by a dunk from thomas. Thomas took the ball baseline from the right wing and dunked over umc center mario bonner to draw the foul and complete a three point play.
the second half was more of the same as concordia forced 13 turnovers and scored 42 points in the half. Thomas also brought the crowd to itrsquo;s feet as he took an alley-oop pass from joey peel and dunked over a crookston player.
the eagles were led by junior garry thompson who scored 14 points and collected a game high 10 rebounds.
the golden bears will travel to southwest minnesota state to take on the mustangs next friday, january 13 at 8:00pm.
