Bears can't tame mustangs, fall in overtime

Senior forward kenneth pointer scored a career-high 25 points but it wasn't enough to tame the hot three-point shooting of southwest minnesota state as the golden bears seven game winning streak was snapped by the mustangs, 87-79 in overtime at the r/a facility in marshall, minn. The bears fall to 2-1 in league play and 12-3 overall with the loss while the mustangs picked up their first nsic win, improving to 8-6 overall (1-2 nsic).

the mustangs canned their biggest three-pointer with 8.7 seconds to play to tie the score at 69. Junior guard kyle marxhausen's fadeaway jumper from the baseline rattled out, sending the game into overtime.
smsu finished the game shooting at a 64.7% (11-17) clip from downtown compared to concordia's 22.7% (5-22).

the bears led for much of the contest but couldn't hold on in overtime. Trailing by three points with the ball, junior point guard joey peel was whistled for a controversial offensive foul in the paint with 21 seconds remaining, turning the ball back over to the mustangs. The concordia bench received a double technical foul after the offensive foul call, and the mustangs converted all four of their free throws, followed by two more on the ensuing possession to seal the game.

each member of the three-headed monster scored in double-figures once again. Senior forward ty thomas finished with 18 points and four blocks while marxhausen had ten points. Senior center aaron ackerson scored eight points despite fouling out in 20 minutes of play while peel netted seven points.
