the concordia women's basketball team dropped its third straight nsic game friday night, when northern state handed the bears a 72-68 loss in the gangelhoff center. With the win, northern state coach curt frederickson became the fourth ncaa division coach to earn 600 career wins.
nakia carlisle led the bears with 24 points on 10-20 shooting, including 4-6 from beyond the arch. She also went 4-4 from the free throw line and had three rebounds and three steals. katie laviolette scored 14 points and had six assists and five reounds in the loss. amanda benke was the only other bear in double-figures with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
the bears took a 35-32 lead into the lockerroom at halftime, but northern state came out and scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 40-35 at 16:25. Concordia would retake the lead at 14:10 on a three by carlisle. There would be eight ties in the second half with 12 lead changes in the game.
northern state would take the lead for good at 66-64 with 2:00 to play and would hit 6-6 free thows to earn the win.
for the game, concordia shot 25-68 (36.8%) from the field and make 9-25 (36%) from three. They would also make 9-12 (75%) from the free throw line.
the bears had 40 rebounds, compared to nsu's 39, but northern state dominated in the middle, scoring 34 points in the paint. noelle hall had a career-hgihg 25 points in the game for the wolves. She also had nine rebounds.
with the loss, the bears fall to 11-7 (3-3 nsic), while nortern state improves to 13-3 (5-1 nsic). Concordia will be in action next saturday when winona state comes to the gangelhoff center for nsic action.
