The bears came out on the wrong end of a 82-78 game with wayne state friday night. The bears had five players score in double-figures, led by
ty thomas with 21.
the game saw eight lead changes and ten ties. Wayne state jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead at the 14:59 in the first half, but the bears were able to tie the game 13-13 and take the lead at 16-15 on a three point field goal by thomas at 9:22. The two teams would go back-and-forth for the remainer of the first half with wayne state leading 35-33.
the wildcats would score the first seven points of the second half and take a 42-33 lead with 18:16 and stretch it to 10 at 45-35 with 17:08 to play. But once again, the bears would battle back, shooting 20-33 (60.6%) for the second half and would take the lead at 61-60 with 9:09 to play on a three pointer by
kenneth pointer.
and once again the teams would go-back-and-forth with five ties over the last nine minutes and the bears were able to get the lead at 78-77 on a free throw by
kyle marxhausen with 1:19 left. Wayne state would take a 79-78 lead at 1:02. The bears had a chance to retake the lead but marxhausen missed a pair of free throws with :42 to play and wsc would make 3 of its final three free throws to claim the win.
both teams shot impressively from the field with wayne state making 29-52 (55.8%) from the field, while the bears hit 52.4% (33-63). Wayne state however made 17-25 (68%) from the free throw line, while concordia went 9-15 (60%). The bears committed a season-low six turnovers and were outrebounded 32-28.
thomas shot 10-21 from the field and led the team with five rebounds. Pointer finished with 18 points and three steals. Marlon
walker, drew shepp and marxhausen all finished with 11 points.
the bears fall to 12-4 (2-2 nsic), while wayne state moves to 4-8 (2-2 nsic). Concordia will host msu moorhead on friday, jan. 20 at the gangelhoff center.
