Bears fall 5-4 in overtime at SW Minnesota State

Southwest minnesota state (2-4-1, 2-1 nsic) defeated concordia (1-7, 0-3 nsic) in overtime with a 5-4 victory this afternoon in marshall, minn. The mustangs scored the game-winner on noelle bergman's penalty kick 4:13 into overtime.

the bears led 4-3 when hillary johnson scored an unassisted goal with just under eight minutes remaining. But the mustangs tied the game in the 87th minute when liz scheisl scored her second goal of the game to send it into overtime.

johnson also had a pair of assists and finished with four points. Freshman sam voeller scored concordia's first goal in the 22nd minute, which tied the score at 1-1. rachel vitense put in cu's second goal in the 52nd minute, assisted by krysta scmitt. lindsay hartleben added the bears' third goal in the 57th minute, the third straight game-tying goal for concordia before johnson's go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute.

smsursquo;s mid-fielders kathleen moore and schiesl each scored two goals to account for all four mustang goals in regulation.

concordia outshot smsu 17-13 in the game, but smsu had more scoring opportunities with 11-9 shots on goal.
