The Concordia soccer team fell 2-1 at home against Bemidji State in their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener. The Bears start their conference season 0-1 and fall to 1-5 on the season, while Bemidji State is 1-0 in NSIC play and 3-1-2 overall.
Concordia jumped on top early as
Emily Grannes scored off of
Sam Voeller's corner kick 2:33 into the game. They held onto the 1-0 lead for the next 42 minutes until Mary Stoltz scored for Bemidji State to tie the score at one with just nine seconds remaining until halftime.
The Beavers didn't waste much time in taking the lead in the second half, as Jessica Ploeger scored at the 54:58 mark.
Concordia had plenty of chances to tie the score, but the strong play of BSU goalkeeper Kari Torgerson kept Concordia from knotting the score at two.
The Bears held a 20-15 advantage in shots and a 13-8 edge in shots on goal. They also had eight corner kick attempts to BSU's five.
Rachel Vitense led shooting effort with seven shots, two on goal, while
Hillary Johnson fired four shots, with three on goal.

Kara Gamboni recorded six saves, while Torgerson stopped 12 Golden Bear shots.
The Bears look for their first NSIC win tomorrow when they play host to Minnesota Crookston at 1 p.m.
